The Call for Proposals ended on December 6, 2002.
Now available: the final program.
Conference Theme
The theme for the 31st national LOEX conference to be held in Madison,
Wisconsin in 2003 is "Reflective Teaching: A Bridge to Learning."
As we all know, effective teaching is more than technique. We also bring
a lot of other talents and gifts to our teaching. Who is "the self"
that teaches and what do we do to nurture that self? To grow as teachers?
To find joy and fulfillment in what we do? Asking such questions is a
part of being a reflective teacher.
By being reflective teachers we foster effective learning. What can we
bring to our teaching that fully connects us to our students? How are
we helping transform our libraries into learning libraries? How do we
encourage our students to become lifelong learners?
We are looking for speakers who will explore and discuss issues related
to the theme of how who we are as teachers can enhance learning. LOEX
invites all instruction librarians and others involved with or interested
in information literacy to share their experiences and expertise with
their colleagues by submitting proposals to speak at one of the conference's
breakout sessions.
Topics may include:
- Ways we support each other as teachers
- Self-assessment of teaching
- Working with colleagues to improve our teaching
- Integrating students' experiences into our teaching
- You're teaching. Are they learning?
- Growing as teachers: professional development programs
- Making the learning library an administrative priority
- Creating a collaborative learning environment with faculty
- Teaching to learning styles different from our own
- Rekindling the fire for mid-career librarians
- Connecting with students when we're not face-to-face
- Staying connected when your "50 Minutes" are up
- Communicating your passion as a teacher to your students
We also welcome proposals on other topics that are related to the theme
of the conference.
